1. Understanding P-I-D
Proportional
The stiffness of a car's suspension springs.
The 'Strength.' How hard the drone tries to reach the desired angle. High P makes the drone feel 'snappy' but too much causes fast oscillations.
Integral
The 'Cruise Control' that maintains speed up a hill.
The 'Memory.' It corrects for external forces like wind or weight shifts over time. High I keeps the drone on its track during long maneuvers.
Derivative
The shock absorbers that stop the car from bouncing.
The 'Damping.' It acts as a brake for the P-term to prevent overshooting. High D smooths things out but creates massive electrical noise/heat.
The "Feel" Simulator
Adjust the sliders to see how the drone's behavior changes.

2. Rates & Expo
Max Rate (deg/s)
How fast the drone spins when the stick is pushed to the edge.
Beginner: 400-500 deg/s
Freestyle: 600-800 deg/s
Racing: 300-500 deg/s (Precision over speed)
Exponential (Expo)
Expo makes the sticks less sensitive in the center while keeping them fast at the edges. This allows for tiny corrections during flight without making the drone twitchy.
Stop Manual Tuning?
99% of pilots no longer tune from scratch. Betaflight's Presets Tab contains tunes from the world's best pilots (like Karate or Supafly). Find a preset that matches your drone size (e.g., "5-inch 6S Freestyle") and apply it. It is usually 95% perfect.
